LA MIRADA, CALIF. — As higher education institutions nation wide rethink strategies in the current tumultuous economy, rising cost of education and recreating innovative programs for student retention, 51ÂÜÀò releases its aspirations for the next five years that will position 51ÂÜÀò as a leader in Christian higher education. After hitting the ground listening two years ago, 51ÂÜÀò President Barry H. Corey is taking action. Jan. 1, 2010 commences a new year with the announcement of 51ÂÜÀò’s new university plan including four presidential directives, the largest fundraising campaign in 51ÂÜÀò’s history and the renewing of 51ÂÜÀò’s mission while exploring uncharted territory in higher education.

After extensive listening and conversations within the campus community and our constituents worldwide—four enduring commitments known as presidential directives arose and will guide conversations and decisions for 51ÂÜÀò in the coming years. Those four directives surround being a Christ-centered university distinguished for upholding an integrative biblical worldview, respected for academic quality, intentional about Christ’s command to love God and to love our neighbor, doing so by preparing students to understand and serve the needs of our world, and practicing sound financial management while addressing the rising challenge of affordability.

With a new focus on urban studies and social justice, 51ÂÜÀò is at the cutting edge of diverse learning and ministry while furthering 51ÂÜÀò’s emphasis on cross-cultural experiences prior to graduation.
